Summer is finally here! I’m so happy! I’ve been looking around on some of my favourite websites for fun things to inspire my summer wardrobe and am loving tropical prints lately. These are some of my favourite things that I found that I’m Summer Lovin…I know…as bad as a Dad joke but I couldn’t resist!
1. This one piece by LA Hearts is just so cute! I’m really loving one pieces lately for how flattering they are. Unfortunately I have a disproportionate torso so fitting into a one piece is extremely hard for me.
2. iPhone case by Richmond & Finch is a great way to switch up your phone for summer. I just have a boring white case on my phone now and will probably be buying this!
3. Nordstrom carries this adorable baseball cap that you can just throw on while out running errands and make your look instantly summery!
4. This amazing beach coverup from Lauren Conrad is light and airy to keep you cool and makes a great addition if you have a one colour bathing suit. It’s nice to be able to wrap yourself up to protect your skin from the sun but still feel the breeze and keep yourself from getting too hot.
5. I’m loving this tote bag from Roxy that allows you to throw in all your essentials for the day! If you’re doing some running around, or going to the beach, it holds it all!
^^ Scott’s dad making fun of me for posing in front of the sign! Haha!
^^ That’s Scott in the black!
This past weekend I took a roadtrip with my parent’s and Scott’s parents to go visit him in Toledo Ohio! It was quite the adventure and took us a lot longer than planned because we didn’t realize the I-75 South was closed through Detroit! Oh well we got there just fine and it was soooo good to see Scott…even if it only was for a couple of days.
While we were there we decided to check out the Toledo Zoo. It was a lot of fun and was a really nice zoo. They had a bunch of new baby animals that we’re so freaking cute including lemurs, chimps and my favourite GIRAFFE’S! I couldn’t get close to the giraffe’s unfortunately because if you went out on the deck they expected you to feed them and we were running out of time (had to get Scott back for his game).
In case you didn’t know, Scott is a Minor League Baseball Umpire so despite us living in Canada he works in various parts of the States for the baseball season (a long six months). So every day he has a game that we have to get to so we don’t have a lot of free time unfortunately. It’s still super cool for me to see him down on the field though and I get to try all the different foods the baseball field’s sell during the games. This time it was a funnel cake sundae…oh yeah!
They had a Beatles Night the Friday I was there and if you know how much I love the Beatles you would know how much I appreciated this. I was super bummed that I hadn’t found out about it ahead of time because I left all my Beatles/Paul McCartney stuff at home! Oh well it was still fun and they had a Beatles Tribute band (The Fab Four) play a little amphitheater outside after the game.
For the trip to the zoo/the baseball game that night I decided to wear my favourite romper. I got this one from a Canadian favourite Stitches last year, but have rounded up a few of my in stock favourites below. Stitches is probably the equivalent of Charlotte Russe, Rue 21 or Wet Seal in the States!
Hey guys! I’ve been off the grid for a little bit now. Some of you may know I’ve been working two jobs, which has been exhausting, but I’m just getting over a nasty round of strep throat. I had it for about a week and didn’t want to do anything but lay around all day!
Anyhoo I’ve really been concentrating on my skin lately. It’s been looking pale, dry, and lifeless looking lately and I’ve just been packing more makeup on to try and cover it up. Of course this just made it worse so I decided to try a few things to refresh my face a little bit. I’m actually blown away by how quickly my skin has turned around and am feeling more confident to go out without makeup on. I haven’t quite gotten there yet (I have the worst dark circles that make it hard for me to convince myself to be 100% makeupless) but a bit of BB creme goes a long way. So this is what I’ve been doing this week that has been working for me!
Go Makeupless – Letting your skin breathe is sooo important. It gives it time to recover from having makeup on it all the time!
Remove Makeup Properly! – Sounds simple right? Well not if you’re as lazy as me! After a long day of work I fell into the habit of just quickly wiping my face with a makeup wipe and call it a day. Well this doesn’t remove all of the makeup and then it settles into your pores. I’ve been using a miceller water to make sure I get it all, including dirt and oils from the day.
Cleanse – This falls under the “wiping my face with a makeup wipe and calling it a day” thing. I barely washed my face with a cleanser. I know that’s so sooo bad and now that I’ve been washing my face twice a day I can really feel a difference in my skin. Disclaimer: washing your skin with cleanser too much can bother your skin as well. Try and find an alcohol free one and test it out. If twice a day irritates your skin only use it once a day and just rinse your skin in the morning. It all depends on your skin type!
Tone & Moisturizer – I’ve been using a toner as a follow up to the cleanser and I find my skin is a lot less red. After the toner I moisturize as normal and my skin just soaks it up. So much smoother.
Drink LOTS of Water – Again, kind of obvious, but a lot of people forget how good water is for the skin (me included). I can really tell when I’m less hydrated because my skin looks really shallow and dry.
Ok so these tips may be obvious and you’ve probably heard it a thousand times. It doesn’t help to have a reminder though, I sure needed it as I had been neglecting my skin. Just remember to do these simple things every day and your skin will bounce back in a few days!
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
You know when you seem to run out of all your makeup at once? Then you’re digging through scraps trying to find something that works to get you through the next day or so until you can go restock? That happened to me last week and I felt like I had to buy so much! I always feel like it’s a lot of pressure to go pick out a new foundation or mascara, but I managed to find a few jems that I love in case you’re on the hunt for something new!
1. Elf Primer – Poreless
The original Elf Primer is great, but the poreless version is my favourite. It really does a great job of smoothing the skin and minimizing pores. I have found my pores have been bugging me a lot lately so this is an area I was looking to improve. If you are fine with your pores as usual you are probably good just sticking with the original. I find the poreless version has a bit of a tea tree oil smell to it. It isn’t unpleasant or overpowering at all however. This primer really makes me feel like my foundation just glides on my skin and helps it last a lot longer.
2. Maybelline Fit Me Foundation – Matte and Poreless
Once again I’m going with a poreless look at the moment. I’ve used the regular version of this foundation before and I liked it, but there is something so nice about the matte finish of this one. I find this foundation covers well without being too cakey or heavy on the skin. You can also build it up if you need more coverage and it lasts a long time. I also would like to try the dewy version of this foundation as I’m sure it would give a nice finish as well.
3. Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser
This is a tried and true classic for me. When I was first getting into makeup I bought this all the time and decided to pick it up again after all this time. I’m always so pleased at how well this product blends and how it covers my dark (and I mean dark) circles.
4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I didn’t realize how many Maybelline products I bought until right now! Haha! This is hands down my favourite drug store mascara however. I pretty much only use this one and have since my makeup artist for my wedding introduced me to it during my makeup trial. I find it makes my eyelashes look a lot longer and thicker and the wand gets all my little lashes as well.
5. NYX Liquid Eyeliner
I love this eyeliner. It goes on true black and makes wings easy. There’s not much to say about this one other than it does the job!
So these are the products I’ve been using lately. Do you guys have any you’d recommend? What should I try?
Every time I travel I come home feeling off. Don’t get me wrong I love traveling, but I feel like I need to hit a reset button when I return home. I always notice I get home with tired skin and stringy hair so I always follow this routine to get myself back on track.
I never drink enough water when traveling. It’s so bad and I know I should but I don’t. As soon as I get home I up my water intake immediately. It makes my skin feel better and allows my body to start moving again and adjust to normal life.
There’s nothing better than scrubbing off the feeling of the world once you return home. I just feel so much better taking a warm shower and making my skin feel brand new.
I have a bayalage soft of thing happening with my hair right now and blonde hair tends to turn brassy…especially after a week of hotel water. I always apply a toning treatment (such as a purple shampoo) to return my blonde to actual blonde.
4. Hair Mask
My hair takes a beating when I’m traveling. In an effort to pack less I’ve been using hotel shampoo’s and conditioner’s and let’s be honest…they’re usually not great. Once I’m home I throw a hair mask in as soon as I get in the shower and let it soak in while I’m doing the rest of my regular shower routine. My hair always feels so smooth and silky afterwards.
Dry skin is no fun! After I take a shower I apply a thick moisturizer (like a body butter) all over and a face cream to help my skin return to normal.
Once I’m finished with all these steps I feel so much better. They’re all so simple and may seem obvious but I just love the fresh feeling! Do you guys do anything special when you return from travel?
Alessandra Ambrosio always seems to make a simple outfit look super stylish. I love this look on her that I saw on whowhatwear.com. They had posted a few of the items she was wearing as well as the prices and I was floored! When you total it up it’s $1563 Canadian! What?! As a Victoria Secret Model she can surely afford it, but for the rest of us…
I found a bunch of similar pieces to compare to her outfit that are so much cheaper. It’s actually pretty fun finding an outfit in a magazine or Pinterest and seeing if you can pick up pieces from it from your favourite stores. I love how similar the sunglasses are from H&M and they are only $10!
I want to start off this post by saying this is in no way sponsored by or have any affiliation with Target. I just love them and miss them since they left Canada. All those Canadians that claim “it was no different then anywhere else” are just plain wrong!
Have you guys seen Target’s new summer collection? I’m loving it! I’m a huge fan of dressing fashionable on a budget. Why spends tons of money on a piece that you’re going to be afraid to live in right? Target nailed the trends of the season and with the price you can get a bunch of this to spruce up your wardrobe for the season! I know I’m going to the next time I make a trip to the States.
How cute is this racerback dress? It’s such a simple dress that you can wear all summer for any occasion but the colourful stitching makes it so fun! Throw it on over a bathing suit at the beach or wear it to your next BBQ.
This is such a simple but stylish shoe. It also looks to be really comfortable like you could wear it all day. It comes in four colours as well!
This is such a great beach bag! I love the black and white because you can pretty much wear it with anything but the pattern is still super fun!
Check out the collection here and let me know what you like!
I spent a few days in Rochester NY this past week visiting Scott. It happened to be the same week they were holding their annual Lilac Festival. I love lilacs and the park was so beautiful.
It was so nice to spend time wandering around the gardens in the nice weather and just laying in the grass for a while. So many people were out on a Wednesday afternoon it was almost like they all took a holiday for the week.
Scott was so funny lying awkwardly in the grass trying to get “comfortable”. I’m pretty bummed out I forgot my DLSR camera at home and had to take all these pictures with my iPhone…but the lilacs were so beautiful it didn’t matter.
We stopped at one of the food carts to try some of the crazy foods. I opted for a piece of frozen cheesecake, dipped in melted chocolate, and rolled in sprinkles. I was so confused at how it was going to taste, but it was like eating ice cream. It was actually so good, but so dense I ended up only eating about a third of it and forcing Scott to eat the rest! haha!
I’m off to Rochester this week to visit Scott and that involves packing for a few days. Packing for a weekend tip is a daunting task because you never want to pack too much or the wrong thing. As someone who travels a lot for only a few days at a time I like to think I have it down pat. Here are some tips if you’re looking at getting away for a weekend.
1. Pack light
Ok so this probably seems super obvious, but I’ve seen one too many people with six bags for a three day trip. Try and only pack what you’re sure you’re going to need. If you end up needing something while you’re away you can always pick it up at a store if you’re desperate.
2. Go with basics
I try and always pack simple basics. White t-shirts, light wash jeans, black legging
s, etc are all great and can be dressed up with simple accessories or mixed and matched.
You never know what the weather will be like (well depending on where you go) so it’s better to be prepared. I like to bring a few t-shirts or tank tops, a few cardigans, and a jacket that goes with anything. That way you can take off layers if it’s too hot or put more on if it’s too cold. I also bring a scarf to add a pop of colour and a large bag so you can fold up and store whatever you’re not wearing while you’re out and about.
4. Pack one nice outfit
There is nothing worse than a last minute dinner or night out and all you have are casual clothes. I have made it a habit of bringing one nice dress (a little black dress works well) just in case!
5. Roll your clothes
When packing try and roll your clothes instead of folding them. Folding them takes up so much more space in your bag and rolling them together keeps them from getting wrinkled. If you’re not sure what I mean check out this
fantastically helpful YouTube video!
